9th Annual Spring Benefit Honored Tutors and Raised Funds

Passionate supporters of Read Alliance gathered together at the 9th Annual Spring Benefit on Thursday, April 27th, for a night of generous philanthropy and celebration. READ teens eagerly shared stories of their tutor experiences with engaging guests. A wine ring toss game and a mentalist who performed astonishing card tricks added to the excitement of the evening.

READ tutor Trevor Hutson accepted the award for Tutor Honoree, the first award the organization has given to a current tutor. Executive Director Kelley Perkins recognized Trevor and all the tutors in the room as the “special sauce” that makes the READ model both unique and successful, and she also described the tutors as heroes to their students. Additional speakers included READ Tutor Ambassador Elizabeth Rodriguez and tutor alumnus Manuel Tejada.

Our enthusiastic attendees at the event donated more than $50,000 in the room that evening alone, including raising more than $25,000 in less than ten minutes. In total, generous supporters of the Spring Benefit gave more than $380,000 to support our important one-to-one early literacy tutoring across New York City. Thank you to all of our generous donors and sponsors who contributed to the successful event!
