Build Your Future

The Build Your Future program, now in its fourth year, provides our teen tutors with additional skills necessary for college and career success. Through workshops and hands-on experience, teens develop professionalism, explore a variety of career options, participate in an online college assessment, and tour college campuses. Only teens employed in our Summer Reading Program are eligible for Build Your Future.

In 2011, Build Your Future provided 23 of Read’s standout teen tutors with an exciting summer of college and career prep activities, including a behind-the-scenes look at television production on a field trip to Fox News Channel, a college tour of City College and a Financial Literacy Workshop hosted by Schroeder Investment. 

The summer concluded with one of the program's signature events, the Fourth Annual Build Your Future Career Fair. This year's event was hosted at Hunter College and included presenters from various industries including architecture, marketing, journalism, healthcare, law, urban planning, human resources and education. Teens also had the opportunity to discuss college with current college students in the "college corner", as well as participate in mock interview sessions and resume critique, conducted by corporate supporter HSBC and members of our Leadership Council.
