Leadership Council’s 3rd Annual Fall Event: The Art of Reading
On November 9, the Leadership Council will host a celebration of Read Alliance’s expanded Literacy & Arts program. The event, appropriately called "The Art of Reading" will take place at James Graham & Sons gallery and will feature artwork created by Read Alliance students, an open bar, light hors d’oeuvres, raffle, and a short presentation on art and literacy from Rosa Lofgren, a teacher from PS279X who worked with the program.
The approach to learning taken in our Literacy & Arts program empowers struggling readers to write and speak confidently through group reading sessions, discussions, and the arts. This past summer, more than 225 students were able to participate! For many, the Literacy & Arts program provided them with their very first art-making experiences.
The Leadership Council, which is made up of New York City professionals from diverse industries, including education, finance, marketing, psychology, accounting, and consulting, has put many hours of love and dedication into making this event possible. The Leadership Council supports Read Alliance's mission to improve the educational trajectory of at-risk kindergarten and first grade students through one-to-one tutoring in basic reading skills, while also providing more NYC teen tutors with meaningful entry into the workforce.
To join us for an evening of art, cocktails, and fellowship in support of Read Alliance, click here to reserve your general admission and raffle tickets. Early-bird pricing will be available through October 24th, 2011. Unable to attend? Guests do not have to be present to win the raffle!
